Using the Apps

Sphero BOLT connects to your phone, tablet, or computer via Bluetooth connection. The iPad comes with the Apps already installed.

If you wish to use your own device, links are included below to download them from your app store.

 

Sphero Edu

Coding and learning with BOLT.

  1. Open Sphero Edu app and choose Quick Start – Let’s Code. This will skip account creation and start programming. You cannot save activities or programs in this mode.
  2. If you wish to create a Home User account, select this option. Please remember to log out of your account before you return your Sphero BOLT to the library.
  3. Find the “Connect Robot” button (or any action that requires a robot, such as driving, or starting a program. Select your Robot type.
  4. Hold your device near your BOLT.
  5. It will locate your BOLT. And let you know when it is successfully connected.

Sphero Play

Fun Drive modes and games with BOLT.

  1. Open Sphero Play app, Select BOLT robot to connect.
  2. Hold your device near you BOLT and it will automatically connect.

Swift Playgrounds

Coding in Swift with BOLT

  1. Click See All in the bottom corner of the app.
  2. Scroll down to see the “Sphero” section of the playgrounds and click “Get” on the “Sphero Arcade” and the Sphero Template” – both playgrounds are compatible with the BOLT. The Sphero Arcade is a themed coding journey building classic games with Sphero, and the Sphero Template is an open canvas to make any program you want.
  3. Open the Sphero Template or Arcade, advance to the first coding page, click “Connect” in the upper right corner.
  4. Hold your iPad near your BOLT and select your robot to connect

CAUTION

  • NEVER drop your Sphero BOLT on a hard surface or drive off a ledge higher than 18”.
  • Not designed for chewing, throwing, or aggressive play.
  • Charging should be performed with the assistance of an adult.

 

Charging the BOLT

  • Plug the charging cradle in using the supplied cables, and set the BOLT on top.
  • The BOLT will blink blue when charging. When the light turns solid it is ready to go. 
  • Can’t connect your robot? It might be in “off” mode. To turn it “on”, simply place it in the charging cradle, let it complete its light animation, then try connecting again.

Lending Policy

  • Each kit can be borrowed for 2 weeks.
  • 1 renewal if no one else is waiting for the item. 
  • The borrower is responsible for lost, missing, and damaged pieces (see content list with prices included with kit).
  • Return the kit to a staff member at the front desk of your nearest ORL location. Do not use the book drop or leave them outside the library. ·
  • BC One Card patrons: Library of Things kits must be checked out and returned to one of the Okanagan Regional Library branches.
