Reading eBooks on Kobos

Borrow library eBooks directly on Kobos over a Wi-Fi connection

This guide is for newer Kobos like the Libra, Forma, Aura ONE, Aura Edition 2, and Clara HD.

Notes on Downloading or Syncing Issues

Some library eBooks do not sync to Kobo eReaders

To sync successfully, eBooks from the ORL’s OverDrive collection need to match the eBook from the Kobo store on:

  • Cover image
  • ISBN
  • Publisher
  • Release date

If there are differences between the library copy and the Kobo Store copy, the eBook will not sync.

See a "There seems to be a problem..." message when checking out an eBook on your Kobo?

If you see a message reading "There seems to be a problem. If the problem persists, please try using your public library’s website instead, and then sync your eReader.”

Try checking out the book on the Libby App, or from the ORL’s OverDrive collection, and then re-sync your Kobo.

If the eBooks still does not show up in the My Books section of your Kobo, try repairing your Kobo account by following the steps on the Kobo Help website.

What to do when your eBook will not sync to your Kobo.

Read the book on your browser. Find the Read now in Browser option on the Checked Out page of your catalogue account, or the Loans page on the ORL's OverDrive site.

If you have an iPhone, iPad, or Android device, download and read the book on the Libby App.
