Your gift has a tremendous impact.

Donations to the ORL directly support the communities we serve—enhancing learning, literacy, and library access for all.

As a registered charity, the ORL issues tax receipts for donations over $25.

To donate by cash or cheque, please visit any ORL branch or complete the first page of the Donations Form (PDF) and mail it to ORL Administration.

We’re not accepting material donations at this time. Thanks for your understanding.

When donations resume, we welcome:

  • Local history materials
  • Bestsellers and clean copies of classics
  • DVDs (feature films, documentaries, Disney titles)

We cannot accept:

  • Items in poor condition
  • Textbooks or outdated materials (5+ years old)
  • Encyclopedias, medical books, or old travel guides
  • Reader’s Digest Condensed Books
  • Video/music cassettes
  • Single magazine issues

Only books in excellent condition may be added to the ORL collection. Others may be used for library book sales.

Please Note: We do not issue tax receipts for donated materials.

Let your love of libraries and literacy make a lasting impact.

There are several ways to support the ORL through legacy giving:

1. Include the ORL in your will

Use ourSample Bequest Wording” (PDF) to designate a portion of your estate to the Okanagan Regional Library.

2. Request memorial gifts

Let your family know you’d like memorial donations directed to the ORL. Suggested obituary wording:
“In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Okanagan Regional Library.”

3. Contribute to a local endowment

Add to ORL’s endowment funds at your regional community foundation:

  • Shuswap Community Foundation
  • Community Foundation of the North Okanagan
  • Central Okanagan Foundation
  • Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen

Gifts of any size are welcome. Income from these funds supports local library programs and initiatives year after year.

Volunteer with the ORL

Most ORL volunteers are part of their local Friends of the Library groups, helping with book sales, events, and community support.

If you’re interested in volunteering, contact the Friends group in your area—or speak directly with your Branch Head or Community Librarian to learn more.

Please note:
Volunteer roles are designed to complement, not replace, paid positions—and may vary by branch.
