RBdigital Magazines

The RBdigital Magazines Collection is now OverDrive Magazines

OverDrive will be ending access to magazines on the RBdigital site and app on March 31.

Late last year, RBdigital Magazines and Books had been acquired by OverDrive, the ORL's digital book provider, so they are moving magazines over to their own platform.

Since February 5, RBdigital Magazines could be borrowed from the ORL’s OverDrive site, https://orl.overdrive.com and the Libby App.

Head over to our OverDrive Magazines info page to learn how borrow your favourites!

What’s the same?

OverDrive Magazines…

  • can be enjoyed on a browser or on an app.
  • are always available for check out.
  • don’t have any limits on how many you can borrow.

What about OverDrive Magazines will be different from RBdigital Magazines?

Some things to get used to…

  • Text-view of an article is only available when reading magazines on the Libby App, see this help page, https://help.libbyapp.com/en-us/6215.htm, to learn how to use this option.
  • The Libby App will not have text-to-speech functionality for magazines, OverDrive is considering this feature for future development.
  • OverDrive does not currently have plans for patrons to automatically borrow new issues of a magazine.
  • You can check out magazines for 7, 14, or 21 days; they will be automatically removed from your account at the end of the loan period. Since they are always available, you can borrow magazines again at any time.
  • There will be up to 3 years of older issues of magazines available to check out.

Want to see your previously checked out RBdigital Magazines?

Since the launch of RBdigital Magazines as Zinio for Libraries in 2012, ORL patrons had been able to check out magazines and keep them on their account for an unlimited amount of time. With the move to OverDrive, magazines will no longer be kept on patron accounts.

If you would like to be able to access older magazine loans, you can either download the free ZINIO app or go to https://www.zinio.com/ca. Register a new Zinio account using the same email address used for your RBdigital account (you could also sign in, or reset your password, if you recall what email address you had used for Zinio for Libraries).

Once signed in, your previously borrowed magazine loans will be found in the My Library section of your account.

Please note that Zinio is a commercial website and that your zinio.com account is separate from your library account. With your Zinio account, you can:

  • choose how you want Zinio to communicate with you by setting your email preferences.
  • choose to purchase magazines for your own personal collection. The ORL is not responsible for magazines you purchase for your personal collection.
