The Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) is seeking a passionate, inspiring, and community-focused Branch Head Librarian II for our Vernon branch.
The ORL is a vibrant regional library system, with 29 branches stretching from Golden in the Rocky Mountains to Osoyoos at the US border. Surrounded by three beautiful lakes and next door to BC’s third largest ski area, the City of Vernon provides a great mix of urban amenities along with spectacular outdoor recreational opportunities creating a great place to live and work.
The Vernon Branch Head II Librarian is responsible for the operation and management of the busiest urban branch in the ORL. The library is a two floor 27,000 square footage facility located in the downtown core of the city serving a diverse customer group.
The ORL is looking for an experienced leader with a passion for public service, the ability to engage, foster innovation, implement new ideas and processes while supporting employee success. The Vernon Branch Head II will have proven experience in creating and maintaining vital community partnerships, advocacy, and supervision. The successful candidate provides strong leadership, administrative support, and a professional librarian perspective to a major branch library.
This position is permanent full-time 35 hours weekly. Salary range is $73,200 - $77,877.

The Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) is seeking a passionate, visionary, and community-minded Branch Head II Librarian for two facilities that service growing communities in the City of West Kelowna, Regional District of the Central Okanagan, and the West Bank First Nation.
The ORL Branch II Librarian is in a leadership role responsible for the effective administration and management of our existing Westbank branch and a new second facility opening later this year. This new space is being designed for technology and learning, featuring flexible classrooms with modular furnishings and a makerspace.
The successful candidate will bring with them proven experience in developing and maintaining partnerships, identifying learning opportunities and creating outreach responses. The individual will be planning and organizing library branch resources and services to meet the community needs and interests. They will develop and maintain effective relationships with staff, be a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and stay current with trends, technologies, and best practices in public library services.
Qualifications include a Master’s Degree from an accredited Library School and at least three years relevant public library experience, including one year in a supervisory position.
This position is permanent full-time 35 hours weekly. Salary range is $73,200.40 - $77,877.80.

Kelowna Branch is an exciting downtown library, located in the heart of Kelowna’s Cultural District and Tech Centre. Having recently undergone phase 1 of a multi-phase renovation, this signature library building is now connected on two floors to the new Okanagan Centre for Innovation, and features bright, large new meeting and teaching spaces which have been very popular in the community. Kelowna Library is leading the ORL in developing new technical and STEAM programming for adults and children, and a fundraising campaign is underway to raise money for future phases of the renovation, which will include a Make Space and Recording Studio. In recent years, Kelowna Library has developed strong partnerships in the city, situating the library at the heart of the community as an important component of the vibrant Cultural District. It functions as an education centre with strong partnerships with both Okanagan College and the University of British Columbia, and as a key participant in community development initiative with the City of Kelowna.

The Technical Assistant's primary function is to provide technical assistance for customers and staff. This includes technical training, trouble shooting and device support. The next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will build on the ORL’s recent growth and development and provide innovative leadership to the ORL as it responds to the rapid pace of change in the public library sector and the evolving needs of the communities ORL serves. Reporting to a 24 member Board of Directors comprised of elected representatives from town councils, regional district boards and First Nations, the CEO is responsible for providing vision and leadership to the ORL, and for planning, organizing and directing all facets of its operations to effectively meet the needs of its members for library services within the strategy, policy and financial framework established by the Board.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and collaborative leader with exceptional communication interpersonal skills. S/he will have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a senior management position in a Canadian multi-branch library system, including experience in financial management and some experience working successfully with a large political Board. A graduate degree in librarianship from an ALA-accredited institution is required.
