The Okanagan Regional Library has an exciting opportunity for the right candidate in the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) role on their leadership team.

We’re looking for a solution focused, creative thinker with exceptional communication skills to lead our financial team.  The incumbent will perform complex administrative, supervisory, and professional accounting work at the senior management level, including  planning and directing fiscal administration for the Library, delivering leadership and direction to assigned financial and administrative support services (accounting, property acquisition and maintenance, wage and benefit administration), and preparing the annual budget and overseeing expenditure control. 

In addition, the incumbent negotiates and administers leases and facility maintenance contracts, oversees repair and maintenance for all library buildings and develops annual operating and capital budget estimates for the maintenance of library buildings.   

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and collaborative leader with exceptional communication and leadership skills.  The individual will hold a CPA designation and have a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a senior financial management position and some experience working successfully with a large political Board.

Kelowna Branch is an exciting downtown library, located in the heart of Kelowna’s Cultural District and Tech Centre.  Having recently undergone phase 1 of a multi-phase renovation, this signature library building is now connected on two floors to the new Okanagan Centre for Innovation, and features bright, large new meeting and teaching spaces which have been very popular in the community.  Kelowna Library is leading the ORL in developing new technical and STEAM programming for adults and children, and a fundraising campaign is underway to raise money for future phases of the renovation, which will include a Make Space and Recording Studio.  In recent years, Kelowna Library has developed strong partnerships in the city, situating the library at the heart of the community as an important component of the vibrant Cultural District.  It functions as an education centre with strong partnerships with both Okanagan College and the University of British Columbia, and as a key participant in community development initiative with the City of Kelowna.

The ORL Branch II Librarian is in a leadership role responsible for the effective administration and management of our Kelowna Branch Library. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to form and maintain vital community partners.  The Kelowna Branch Head leads a strong team who are dedicated to providing outstanding library service and to maintaining a supportive and collaborative workplace.  Under the general direction of the Director of Public Services.  The Branch Head II provides leadership, advocacy, administrative support, supervision and professional librarian perspective to a major branch library and will function as a senior advisor to the Director of Public Services.

Under the direction of the Reference & Instruction Supervisor or the Branch Head, the incumbent provides reference/information and readers advisory services to residents of the Okanagan Regional Library District.  The incumbent exercises some independent judgement and action within established Okanagan Regional Library policies, procedures and practices.  

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education
Master's Degree from an accredited Library School or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Salary range for this position is $33.75 - $36.66 hourly.

The Okanagan Regional Library has a vacancy for an auxiliary/on-call Reference Librarian at our Salmon Arm branch.  On-Call/Auxiliary staff work on an on call basis to cover vacation/sick time with no guaranteed hours.

Under the direction of the Branch Head, the incumbent provides reference/information and readers advisory services to residents of the Okanagan Regional Library District. 

Qualifications include:

  • Master's Degree in Library Science from an accredited Library School.
  • Considerable knowledge of reference materials in all formats, and of the methods and techniques related to the provision of reference/information and readers advisory services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital and technological applications in library systems.
  • Current working knowledge and skill with MS Office applications and the internet.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team committed to providing quality library service.
