The Okanagan Regional Library is looking for an innovative leader to oversee our centralized support services that consist of cataloguing, processing and allocation of all library materials. Located in beautiful British Columbia, the ORL stretches from Golden in the Rocky Mountains through the wine and fruit producing lands of the Okanagan Valley to the semi-desert Osoyoos at the US border.  It is a vibrant library system, with 30 branches, serving 26 diverse communities, over 250 employees and a service population of over 370,000 people.

The ORL Head of Support Services leads the Support Services team in the efficient and effective management of ORL in the service of our library customers. The position is responsible for positively implementing organizational initiatives including developing goals and objectives, policies, procedures and services, using the library’s strategic plan as a guide, and fosters a supportive and collaborative working environment across the Support Services Department to enable agile adjustments to workflow as needed.

The Head of Support Services is an advisory role to the Sr. Management team in the development of  policies and is responsible for collecting, analysing and reporting data from our ILS databases, websites and external sources to support evidence based decision-making.  As well, they must be proficient in cataloguing standards and processes; budgeting; negotiation and vendor relations; and data collections and analysis. 

We are looking for an individual with strong leadership and human resources management skills and experience in having a diverse group of individuals reporting either directly or indirectly to it with the priority of fostering a great team environment.

Qualifications include:

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Library Sciences required and post secondary courses in management studies preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years experience in positions of increasing complexity and supervisory responsibility. At least one year in a supervisory capacity with demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
