ORL is seeking an experienced, passionate, visionary, and community-minded Branch Head II Librarian for our Kelowna branch.  We invite you to bring your expertise and commitment to service excellence to a role where you can make a real difference.

Located in beautiful British Columbia, the ORL stretches from Golden in the Rocky Mountains through the wine and fruit producing lands of the Okanagan Valley to the semi-desert Osoyoos at the US border.  It is It is a vibrant regional library system, with 29 branches, serving 26 diverse communities, over 250 employees, and a service population of over 370,000 people

Kelowna Branch is an exciting downtown library, located in the heart of Kelowna’s Cultural District and Tech Centre.  Having recently undergone phase 1 of a multi-phase renovation, this signature library building is now connected on two floors to the new Okanagan Centre for Innovation, and features bright, large new meeting and teaching spaces which have been very popular in the community.  Kelowna Library is leading the ORL in developing new technical and STEAM programming for adults and children, and a fundraising campaign is underway to raise money for future phases of the renovation, which will include a Make Space and Recording Studio.  In recent years, Kelowna Library has developed strong partnerships in the city, situating the library at the heart of the community as an important component of the vibrant Cultural District.  It functions as an education centre with strong partnerships with both Okanagan College and the University of British Columbia, and as a key participant in community development initiative with the City of Kelowna.

The ORL Branch II Librarian is in a leadership role responsible for the effective administration and management of our Kelowna Branch Library. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to form and maintain vital community partners.  The Kelowna Branch Head leads a strong team who are dedicated to providing outstanding library service and to maintaining a supportive and collaborative workplace.  Under the general direction of the Director of Public Services.  The Branch Head II provides leadership, advocacy, administrative support, supervision and professional librarian perspective to a major branch library and will function as a senior advisor to the Director of Public Services.

Qualifications include:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an accredited library school.
  • Three year’s relevant public library experience including one year in a supervisory position.

This position is permanent full-time 35 hours weekly.  Salary range is $71,663.18 - $76,362.85.
