Celebrate the Launch of a New Ukrainian Children's Book Collection at Okanagan Regional Library

by Michal Utko | Aug 20, 2024
The Okanagan Regional Library is thrilled to partner with Okanagan 4 Ukraine, Kelowna Stands with Ukraine, and United Way of British Columbia to host a special event celebrating the launch of a new collection of Ukrainian books for children. This free event will take place on August 23, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Kelowna Downtown branch of the Okanagan Regional Library in the Children’s Area.

This unique collection aims to provide Ukrainian children with access to culturally significant literature in their native language while also fostering a sense of community among Ukrainians and Canadians alike. The event will feature engaging activities for children, delicious treats, and the opportunity to connect with members of the Ukrainian and local communities.

“Okanagan 4 Ukraine is a community of volunteers and newcomers working together to promote security and justice for Ukrainians in Canada and Ukraine,” said Kate Woodman, Co-Founder, Okanagan for Ukraine. “This book launch is an important step in ensuring that Ukrainian children have the resources they need to maintain a connection to their culture and heritage while living in Canada.”

Danielle Hubbard, CEO of Okanagan Regional Library, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “We are honored to support this initiative, which not only enriches our library’s collection but also strengthens our commitment to serving all members of our diverse communities. The addition of Ukrainian children’s literature is a significant milestone in fostering cultural understanding and inclusivity within our library system.”

We invite everyone in the community to join us for this meaningful celebration. For more information about the event, visit orl.bc.ca.
