Don Nettleton Appointed New CEO of Okanagan Regional Library
by ORL Marketing | May 23, 2018
Kelowna, BC, May 23rd, 2018 - Okanagan Regional Library has announced the appointment of Don Nettleton as their new CEO. After Stephanie Hall resigned her position as CEO for personal reasons, Nettleton was selected by the board of directors to become an Interim CEO while ORL looked for a new leader. Nettleton became the successful applicant for the CEO position and has officially assumed responsibilities as of Tuesday, May 22nd, 2018.
The ORL Chair, Catherine Lord, is delighted with the choice. “ We have a very strong management team, and under Don’s leadership, the ORL is on a steady, visionary and progressive course that will serve us well into the future.”
Don Nettleton has been part of the ORL team for 24 years. During that time, the ORL moved or renovated every single branch at least once – with the exception of Cherryville. Nettleton was involved in the planning and oversaw the building of 4 library buildings – the new ORL Administrative Center, Okanagan Falls Library, Vernon Library and the Summerland Library while at the same time being responsible for the financial health of the ORL.
"I am humbled, grateful, and excited to be given this opportunity by the Board to be the 5th leader in the ORL history. Having closely worked with the past 2 leaders, I know that I have big shoes to fill but the ORL is in the position where I will be working with a very talented and strong management team to continue to develop and evolve the Library so that it remains as relevant and loved in the 21st century as it has been in the past” said Nettleton when asked about his new role and goals.
Nettleton is a CPA-CA, whose background before coming to the ORL included various financial positions as well as teaching at a High School. Nettleton has worked very closely with the board in providing leadership in the budget and capital planning for the ORL as well as many facets of the strategic plan. Nettleton will continue with some of the great work that Stephanie Hall and her predecessors had started.
Established in 1936, the Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) is the 16th largest library system in Canada, serving over 370,000 residents through 29 branches. It covers 59,600 square kilometres of some of the most beautiful territories in BC, stretching from Golden in the Rockies to Osoyoos in the heart of the Okanagan wine and fruit growing areas. The system is staffed by energetic and committed people who have begun the shift to a more learning and technology-focused service.
