A generous donation from a local environmental organization is helping grow the ORL’s collection of books about climate change, sustainability, and the natural world. This spring, the Sustainable Environment Network Society (SENS) donated $2,000 to the Vernon Branch to support the purchase of new environment-focused books. With additional funding from the ORL, that contribution has helped bring even more titles to library shelves for readers of all ages.
Explore Our New Environmental Reads
Environmental issues touch almost every part of our lives, from the food we eat and the energy we use to the wildlife, forests, water, and communities around us. These new books explore those connections from many different angles. Readers can discover books about climate change and conservation, learn more about ecosystems and wildlife, explore ideas for living more sustainably, and find stories that encourage younger readers to think about their relationship with the natural world.
Want to see what’s new? Explore these reading lists curated by the ORL’s Collections Team:

Celebrating Climate Action Week
The arrival of these new books comes at an especially fitting time. November 2–8 is Climate Action Week, an initiative of the British Columbia Library Association that encourages libraries and their communities to explore climate change, sustainability, and ways to build a more resilient future.
Libraries play an important role in connecting people with information, ideas, and perspectives that help us better understand the world. Sometimes that starts with a question. Sometimes it starts with a conversation. And sometimes it starts by picking up a brand-new book.
Thank You, SENS
The ORL extends its thanks to the Sustainable Environment Network Society for its generous contribution and ongoing commitment to environmental education and awareness. Whether you’re passionate about environmental issues, looking for practical ways to live more sustainably, or simply curious about the natural world, there’s something new waiting for you in the ORL’s collection. Explore the reading lists above, place a hold, or visit your local ORL branch to start reading.
