New to the Library of Things: Memory Care Kits for Meaningful Moments

Sometimes a familiar game, a favourite picture, or a simple conversation can turn an ordinary afternoon into something special. For people living with dementia or memory loss, finding activities that are enjoyable, engaging, and suited to their abilities can make spending time together more rewarding. And for family members, friends, and caregivers, having a variety of activities to choose from can make all the difference.

Our new Memory Care Kits bring together books, puzzles, games, and hands-on activities designed to encourage conversation, participation, and connection. Whether you’re spending time together at home, visiting someone in a care facility, or looking for activities to enjoy independently, these kits offer something to explore.

Three Kits, Plenty of Ways to Connect

Everyone’s experience with memory loss is different, and activities that work well for one person may not be the right fit for another. That’s why the ORL offers three Memory Care Kits, each with activities selected for different levels of engagement.

Early Stage Memory Care Kit

Looking for something that encourages conversation, thinking, and problem-solving? The Early Stage Kit includes conversation prompts, word searches, a marble maze, a 100-piece puzzle, and picture books. It also features TOOLBOX365, a collection of short activities designed to encourage thinking, memory, and connection. Explore the activities independently or enjoy them together.

Middle Stage Memory Care Kit

Sometimes, the best activities are familiar favourites. The Middle Stage Kit offers a variety of games and hands-on activities, including word searches, a marble maze, a 35-piece puzzle, Snakes & Ladders, Ludo, and picture books. TOOLBOX365 activities provide even more opportunities to participate, explore, and spend time together. Activities can be adapted to individual interests, abilities, and preferences.

The Late Stage Kit focuses on sensory and visual engagement, with fidget widgets, a magnetic picture board, a 13-piece puzzle, picture books, and TOOLBOX365 activities. These resources can be enjoyed individually or together, at a pace that feels comfortable.
