What did dinosaurs eat? How did they survive? And what can fossils tell us about their world? Join the ORL for Discovering Dinosaurs, a live virtual program presented by the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology, where young dinosaur enthusiasts can explore these questions and more.
Designed for children in Kindergarten through Grade 3, this interactive program takes participants on a virtual tour of the museum’s world-famous Dinosaur Hall while introducing the science of palaeontology and some of the incredible creatures that once lived in ancient Alberta.
Step into Dinosaur Hall
What did Alberta look like when dinosaurs roamed the landscape? During the 45-minute program, a Royal Tyrrell Museum educator will lead young participants through Dinosaur Hall, stopping along the way to explore carnivores and herbivores, predators and prey, prehistoric plants, ancient environments, and other clues palaeontologists use to understand life millions of years ago.
It’s a chance to see real dinosaur fossils while discovering how scientists piece together evidence from the distant past. And because dinosaur questions have a habit of multiplying quickly, there will also be time for participants to ask questions directly to the museum’s dinosaur experts.
Dig into the Science
There’s a lot more to dinosaurs than debating about which one had the biggest teeth. Discovering Dinosaurs introduces children to palaeontology while connecting dinosaurs to bigger science questions about animals, plants, environments, movement, landforms, and how living things interact.
That makes the program a great fit for curious young dinosaur enthusiasts as well as classrooms, homeschoolers, and families looking for a fun way to explore science together.
