About the Opportunity
The Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) is relaunching its highly successful Maker Tour in 2026. Two Maker Educators will travel across the ORL region, delivering one-day mobile maker labs that bring hands-on technology, creativity, and innovation directly to communities. This year’s tour aligns with the 2026 Summer Reading Club theme, “Under the Sea.”
Position Summary
The Maker Educator travels to designated ORL branches to deliver dynamic, one-day maker programs and interactive technology experiences. Working closely with the Innovation Team, branch staff, and Public Services, the Maker Educators will deliver engaging programming that showcases tools and technologies typically found in ORL maker spaces.
This role requires strong facilitation skills, technical confidence, flexibility, and a willingness to travel extensively throughout the ORL service area (Golden to Osoyoos).
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver innovative, hands-on maker programs.
- Facilitate one-day mobile maker labs featuring creative technology and digital tools.
- Support patrons as they explore equipment and complete take-home projects.
- Transport, set up, operate, and pack mobile maker technology.
- Collaborate with the Innovation Team and branch staff to ensure smooth program delivery.
- Represent ORL professionally in diverse communities.
- Gather feedback to support evaluation of tour success.

Working Conditions
- Temporary, full-time, project-based role (May 19-August 21, 2026)
- 35 hours per week (Monday–Friday, 7 hours/day).
- Extensive travel throughout the ORL region using an ORL vehicle; Maker Educators travel together.
- Early mornings and variable hours depending on branch schedules.
- Physical setup and teardown of equipment required.
Compensation
Covered under CUPE Collective Agreement. Start Rate: $28.98/hour. Job Rate: $30.41/hour.
Qualifications
Education:
- Grade 12 plus two three-credit post-secondary courses in computer science, engineering, digital design, audio/video recording, or similar fields.
Experience:
- Minimum two years teaching experience in formal or informal educational settings.
- Experience with 3D printers, audio/video equipment, lighting, green screen setups, and makerspace technologies.
- Experience with social media platforms.
Skills & Other Requirements:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable facilitating hands-on learning for varied ages.
- Strong problem-solving and improvisation skills.
- Proficiency with Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Physical ability to lift and move equipment.
- Valid BC Driver’s Licence.
