How to Use the

Glowforge Laser Cutter

1. Complete an In-Person Certification Session
Before using the Glowforge laser cutter, you’ll need to attend a short in-person certification session at either the Kelowna Downtown Branch or the Westside Learning Lab.

Browse our Events Calendar to find an upcoming session, or connect with your local Makerspace to arrange a time that works for you.

2. Submit Required Forms
Download the Makerspace Waiver and Guidelines (PDF), complete the form, and bring it with you to your certification session.

Help

What to Bring
Please come prepared with the following:

  • Your library card and a piece of photo ID
  • Your design saved on your own storage device (USB, thumb drive, or SD card)

Important Notes

Our Makerspaces provide proofgrade wood that has been designed and tested for safe use with the Glowforge. For safety reasons, outside materials are not permitted.

Proofgrade materials are available for purchase. Charges will be added to your library account and can be paid online or in person. Please contact your local Makerspace for current pricing.

Save your design file to a USB, thumb drive, or SD card before arriving. Supported file types include .SVG, .PDF, .PNG, and .JPG. (.STL files must be converted before use.)

Library staff may cancel or decline a print job if:

  • The design does not meet Makerspace Guidelines
  • The file has a high likelihood of failure
  • The job exceeds your booked session time

To use an ORL Makerspace independently, all makers must:

  • Complete a Maker Waiver
  • Verify your identity to staff with valid library card and photo ID.

You’ll need a library card to use our maker tools. Get a card.
