Summer has a funny way of sliding by. One minute, school is out and the whole summer stretches ahead. The next, someone mentions September and everyone wonders where July went.
Good news: Summer Reading Club 2026 is still making waves at the ORL, and there’s plenty of time to squeeze more reading, exploring, creating, and library adventures into the season.
Already participating? Nice work!
Forgot about your Reading Tracker for a little while? We won’t tell.
Haven’t started yet? You can still dive in!
How’s Your Summer Reading Going?
Maybe your family has been reading stacks of books. Maybe you’ve been listening to audiobooks in the car, reading comics at the beach, sharing picture books before bed, or discovering that one book your child suddenly wants to read 47 times. It all counts.
Summer Reading Club is about making reading part of summer, wherever summer happens to take you.
There are no assigned books and no required reading lists. Children can choose stories, subjects, and formats that interest them and participate at their own pace.
There’s More Summer Fun Ahead
Reading is at the heart of Summer Reading Club, but it’s only part of the adventure. ORL branches across the region continue to offer programs, activities, and events for children and families throughout the summer. What’s happening varies by branch, so check the ORL events calendar or visit your local branch to see what’s coming up.
Don’t Forget the Prizes!
Books are wonderful. Prizes are also pretty wonderful. Summer Reading Club participants can continue working toward prize opportunities throughout the season. And, of course, there’s the Summer Reading Club medal waiting at the end of the journey.
Haven’t Joined Yet? Come On In!
Think you missed the boat? Nope.
Summer Reading Club is designed so children and families can start at any point during the summer. There’s no need to catch up with everyone else, and there’s no such thing as being “behind.” Visit your local ORL branch, pick up the materials you need, choose something fun to read, and start from wherever you are.
So dig out that Reading Tracker. Head to the library. Pick something completely unexpected from the shelf. Read together under a tree, in a tent, on the couch, beside the lake, or wherever your summer takes you.
