Kelowna, BC — 20 November 2025 — The Board of the Okanagan Regional Library (the ORL) advanced the ORL’s ongoing work to support equitable, accessible service by approving the revision of the Statement of Diversity and Inclusion to the Statement of Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility. This update aligns the organization with the Province of British Columbia’s new Accessibility Standards and strengthens the ORL’s commitment to barrier-free library service.
The ORL continues to offer a broad range of accessibility supports, including Print Disabled Memberships, inclusive phone and ASL programming, large print and audiobook collections, Dyslexic font options in the Libby app, and accessibility resources in select branches such as hearing loops, accessible washrooms, and assistive technology. The Accessibility & Inclusion Advisory Committee also guides ongoing improvements and the development of the library’s first Accessibility Plan.
The Board also received an update on several ongoing and upcoming facilities projects across the region. Construction continues on the new North Shuswap (Scotch Creek) branch, while Provincial Enhancement Grant improvements continue in Naramata, Kaleden, and Silver Creek. Work on the new Parkinson Recreation Centre branch is also progressing, and planning has begun for the upcoming Glenmore branch.
In addition, the ORL reported encouraging early results from its second annual library card drive. Registration rates are currently 26% higher than in 2024, reflecting strong interest from new patrons across the region.
CEO Danielle Hubbard reaffirmed the ORL’s commitment to accessibility, community connection, and responsive service, noting that recent progress in accessibility planning, facilities development, and membership engagement demonstrates the organization’s continued momentum.
