The Birding Backpack kit makes it easy to discover the fascinating world of birds. Whether you’re exploring a local park, walking a nature trail, or simply observing wildlife from your backyard, this kit provides all the equipment needed to help you spot and identify birds while enjoying time in nature.
Birding is one of North America’s fastest-growing outdoor activities and a wonderful opportunity for families to explore the outdoors together.
Recommended for all ages.
How to Get Started
Choose a quiet outdoor location such as a park, trail, wetland, or backyard where birds are likely to gather. Use the binoculars to observe birds from a distance and take time to notice their colours, shapes, and behaviours.
Birdwatching works best when you move slowly and quietly. Sudden movement or loud noises can startle birds, so approach carefully and be patient while you watch and wait. Wearing neutral-coloured clothing can also help you blend into your surroundings.
Pay attention to the habitat around you. Different birds prefer different environments. Woodpeckers are often found in wooded areas with plenty of trees, while meadowlarks prefer open fields and pheasants tend to stay near bushes or dense cover.
For the clearest view, try positioning yourself with the sun at your back so the light falls directly on the birds rather than casting them in shadow. If you are new to birding, starting in your own backyard or neighbourhood is a great way to become familiar with the birds that live in your area.
