How To Use the Former Catalogue

Search for Items 

Visit ipac.orl.bc.ca. Enter your search term in the Quick Library Search box, or select Search for more options.

  • Browse: Search by title, author, subject, or series
  • Advanced: Combine search terms such as title and author
  • Exact: Best for one-word titles such as Help, Time, or It
  • Phrase: Search for an exact phrase (e.g., “stitch in time”)

You can also use Search By to limit by field (title, author, subject) or Limit By to filter by availability or format.

Locate an Item 

From your search results, select Availability to see which branches have the item, its status, and call number. You can also select Full Display to view location details.

See What Is Available Now 

On the search screen, select Limit By, choose Available Now, and select Go.

Check Hold Requests 

From your search results, select Full Display. The number of holds appears next to Current Holds above the Availability section.

Request an Item

From your search results, select Place Request. You may be asked to log in with your library card number and PIN. Choose your preferred pickup branch.

Suspend a Hold 

To delay a hold, enter a date in the Activation Date field when placing the request.
To update an existing hold, go to Requests in My Account, select the item, and choose Suspend.

Renew an Item 

Go to My Account and select Items Out. Select the items you want to renew and choose Renew. Items with existing holds cannot be renewed.

Track Borrowing History 

Go to My Account and select Account Details. Under Contact Information and Preferences, enable Maintain Reading List and submit your changes. Your borrowing history will be saved for up to 5 years.

Create and Manage Lists 

You can save items to lists directly from search results. Select Add to My List to create a new list or add to an existing one. Lists can be printed, emailed, or saved to your computer.
