Kermode Education

Kermode is a browser-based learning tool that analyzes websites and articles to help you build critical thinking, digital literacy, and media evaluation skills. It examines factors like accuracy, bias, and timeliness, then guides you through questions and explanations to help you decide whether a source is reliable. Perfect for students, curious researchers, and anyone who’s ever thought, “Wait… is this actually true?”

Getting Started

Visit Kermode Education.

When prompted, enter the first five digits of your library card barcode number as your license key, then select Login.

How It Works

Step 1: Open Kermode

Log in using the first five digits of your ORL library card barcode.

Step 2: Paste in a Website Address

Copy the web address (URL) of the article or webpage you want to evaluate. Paste it into the Website URL box and select Analyze.

Step 3: Review the Analysis

Kermode scans the webpage and provides information about:

  • Accuracy
  • Bias
  • Timeliness
  • Credibility indicators

You’ll also see graphics, prompts, and explanations designed to help you better understand the source.

Step 4: Think Critically About What You’re Reading

Kermode encourages you to slow down and ask questions about the content, source, and reliability of the information you encounter online. Because sometimes the internet really does need a fact-checking sidekick.
