Ergonomic Essentials: Keyboard Edition

About the Kit

This Library of Things kit is an opportunity to try ergonomic keyboards designed to reduce strain, support natural posture, and make typing more comfortable for longer periods of time. It’s a practical, low-pressure way to test assistive technology at home before deciding what works best for you.

Created with input from the ORL’s Accessibility & Inclusion Advisory Committee, the Ergonomic Essentials kits help you explore accessibility tools in a try-before-you-buy format. Whether you’re experiencing wrist or shoulder strain, learning about inclusive technology, or simply curious about new devices, this Ergonomic Essentials kit is for everyone.

What You’ll Find in the Kit

Wired Ergonomic Split Keyboard
Separates the keys into two angled halves so your hands can rest in a more natural, relaxed position.

Kensington Ergo Wired Split Keyboard
Features a gently curved layout and integrated cushioned wrist rest to support neutral wrist alignment.

Large Print Keyboard (Yellow + Black)
High-contrast keys with large lettering improve visibility and ease of use for low-vision users.

How It Works

Plug the keyboard into your computer using the USB connector. No software installation is required. Adjust your setup for comfort and test each keyboard to determine what feels best for your body and routine.

Helpful tip: many people benefit from accessibility features such as large print, high contrast, or ergonomic layouts—even if they don’t identify as having a disability.
