Now Printing at the ORL: Meet the Bambu Lab X1C 3D Printer

From concept to creation, there’s a moment when imagination turns tangible. With the arrival of our new Bambu Lab X1C 3D Printer, that step becomes faster and more precise.

The Okanagan Regional Library is pleased to introduce this new addition to the Makerspaces at the Kelowna Downtown and Vernon branches. Designed for speed, accuracy, and reliability, the X1C opens the door to more detailed prints and smoother workflows for makers at every level. From practical tools to creative builds and intricate models, this advanced printer transforms digital design files into three-dimensional objects using PLA, a corn-based, plastic-like material. Whether you’re refining a prototype or trying something new, it offers a flexible and approachable way to bring ideas to life.

Where You’ll Find It

The Bambu Lab X1C is available at:

Kelowna Downtown Branch

Vernon Branch

What to Expect

Printing costs are $0.10 per gram of filament, with charges applied to your library account and payable online or in-branch. To help you get started, you’re allowed up to three failed print attempts at no cost. To keep things running smoothly for everyone, staff may cancel a print job if it does not follow Makerspace guidelines, has a high chance of failure, or exceeds your booked time.

Getting Started

To use the 3D printer independently, you’ll need to complete a certification.

Online certification for the Bambu Lab 3D printer is currently in development. In the meantime, you can contact the Kelowna Downtown or Vernon branch for guidance.

Before your first session, you’ll also need to complete the Makerspace Waiver and review the guidelines to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all users.

Once certified, you can reserve a 3D printer station through the ORL’s online booking system, Spaces. Bookings open two days in advance, with limited availability for next-day or same-day reservations by phone.

What to Bring

Bring your library card, a piece of photo ID, and a USB drive or access to online storage for your files.

A New Tool for Curious Minds

The addition of the Bambu Lab X1C strengthens the ORL’s Makerspaces as places for hands-on learning, creativity, and exploration. Whether you’re experimenting, building, or refining a project, this new technology offers another way to turn ideas into something tangible.
