Clear some room on the bookshelf! The 36th Annual Great Okanagan Book Sale returns to Kelowna from October 14–17, with more than 25,000 items expected and four days to browse, hunt for bargains, and discover something new. Need another reason to stop by? Here are five.
1. More Than 25,000 Items to Explore
There’s nothing quite like a good book sale treasure hunt. With more than 25,000 items expected, you can browse table after table of books and see what catches your eye. And you don’t have to arrive on opening day to find something new. Fresh books will be added throughout the sale.
2. Most Books Are Just $2
Looking to stock up for fall and winter reading without emptying your wallet? Most adult and young adult books are only $2 each, making the sale a great opportunity to try a new author, explore a different genre, or finally build that towering to-be-read pile you’ve always wanted.
3. Children’s Books Are Just $1
Young readers can build their own bookshelf too. Children’s books are just $1 each, so families can bring home a stack of stories, discover new favourites, or find a few books to tuck away for future reading.
4. It’s Not Just Books
Already have enough books? We’re not sure that’s possible, but the Friends have you covered anyway. Along with thousands of books, shoppers can browse Large Print books, puzzles, games, and specially priced good-as-new items. You might arrive looking for your next read and leave with something completely unexpected.
5. Every Purchase Supports the ORL
Those bargain finds do some good, too. Proceeds from Kelowna Friends of the Library book sales support ORL branches and help fund programs, resources, and services across the region. Following the Friends’ 2025 sales, $18,000 was contributed to the ORL for system-wide projects and Summer Reading Club presenter tours, along with additional contributions to branches throughout the ORL system. So go ahead and pick up that extra book. It’s for a good cause.
