The Okanagan Regional Library is pleased to announce that beginning September 28 we’re significantly expanding our Digital Collection through a new Reciprocal Lending Arrangement with Fraser Valley Regional Library (FVRL) and Greater Victoria Public Library (GVPL).
Together, our two new partner libraries have more than 100,000 ebooks and e-audiobooks that may be eligible for reciprocal borrowing. That means your ORL library card can now reach beyond our own Digital Collection to help you discover even more books through Libby.
There’s no additional library card to apply for and no new account to set up. If you already use Libby with your ORL library card, you’re ready to explore.
Three Library Systems. One Library Card.
The idea behind the new partnership is simple: libraries can offer more when we work together.
The ORL already offers a large collection of ebooks and e-audiobooks through Libby. Our new partnerships with FVRL and GVPL extend that collection by allowing patrons from all three library systems to borrow eligible titles from one another.
For ORL patrons, that opens up a lot more possibilities. Looking for an older title? Working your way through an author’s backlist? Searching for your next audiobook? Or simply looking for something good to read right now? An eligible copy may be waiting for you in one of our partner libraries.
Best of all, you can borrow it with the ORL library card you already have.
Libby Does the Searching for You
Accessing our new partner collections is built right into Libby.
If you’re an ORL cardholder with a Libby account, Fraser Valley Regional Library and Greater Victoria Public Library will automatically appear in the Partner Libraries section of your Libby menu. You don’t need to add the libraries manually, apply for another membership, or enter another library card.
As you search and browse, Libby automatically checks availability across your saved libraries, including our partner libraries, and shows you the best availability for a title. If an eligible copy is available through FVRL or GVPL, you may be able to borrow it right away.

More Books Available Right Now
There’s another useful part of reciprocal lending: partner titles available to ORL patrons are titles that can be borrowed right away.
ORL patrons cannot place holds on FVRL or GVPL titles through the partnership. Instead, eligible partner titles become available for reciprocal borrowing when a copy is available and there are no holds from patrons in the title’s home library system. So, if the title you want isn’t currently available from the ORL, Libby may find an eligible copy you can borrow from one of our partners instead. It’s one more way to find something great to read or listen to without leaving Libby.
A Bigger Digital Collection
This new partnership is a digital version of something libraries have been doing for a long time: sharing resources to give people greater access to information, stories, and ideas. By partnering with FVRL and GVPL, we can dramatically expand the selection available to ORL patrons while sharing our own collection with readers elsewhere in British Columbia.
For you, it means a simple but exciting change: more ebooks, more audiobooks, and more opportunities to find your next great read with the library card already in your wallet.
