WEST KELOWNA, BC — The Okanagan Regional Library (the ORL) will host A National Crime: The Residential School Experience in Canada, a travelling exhibition from the Legacy of Hope Foundation exploring the history and ongoing impacts of Canada’s Residential School System, at the West Kelowna Library from September 23 to October 3.
The public is invited to an opening reception at the library on Wednesday, September 23 at 6 PM. Welcome to the Land, with representatives from the Okanagan Nation Alliance and the Kelowna Métis Association in attendance to speak about the history and its ongoing impacts. The exhibition will be smudged prior to the reception.
Developed by the Legacy of Hope Foundation, a national Indigenous-led charitable organization, A National Crime explores the history of the Residential School System, the experiences of Indigenous children who were sent to the schools, its ongoing and intergenerational impacts, and Indigenous-led efforts toward healing and Reconciliation.
Hosting the exhibition is part of the ORL’s ongoing commitment to Truth and Reconciliation and an opportunity for community members to learn more about the Residential School System, listen to Indigenous perspectives, and deepen their understanding of its continuing impacts.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the opening reception or visit the exhibition during regular West Kelowna Library hours through October 3.
