Summer Reading Club 2026 has officially begun! And while reading is at the heart of Summer Reading Club, this summer is also packed with exciting events, creative activities, online presentations, challenges, prizes, and opportunities to explore the wonders of this year’s Under the Sea theme. Whether reading every day, attending library programs, completing challenge activities, or joining us online, there are countless ways to make Summer Reading Club part of your summer adventure.

Dive Into Online Adventures
Can’t make it to every event in person? We’ve got you covered. This summer, families can join free online presentations from Ocean Wise and explore fascinating topics connected to oceans, wildlife, ecosystems, and animal lifecycles. Online programs include:
JAWS — Introducing the Superhero of the Reef
Learn about sharks, coral reefs, and the important role these incredible animals play in ocean ecosystems.
Thursday, 9 July, 2:00–2:45 p.m. Registration required.
Arctic Explorers
Travel north to discover Arctic wildlife, ecosystems, and cultures.
Wednesday, 15 July, 2:00–2:45 p.m. Registration required.
Babies! A Journey Through Lifecycles
Explore how animals grow, adapt, and survive through the different stages of life.
Thursday, 23 July, 2:00–2:45 p.m. Registration required.
Participants in our SRC online presentations will also be entered into book draws.
Meet The Fossil Guy
This summer, families can explore the wonders of ancient oceans with Bob O’Donnell, also known as The Fossil Guy.
The interactive Under the Sea fossil exhibit features real marine fossils, from trilobites and ammonites to giant prehistoric sea life. Participants can learn about life beneath ancient oceans and even receive a free fossilized shark’s tooth while supplies last. Young fossil fans can also enter for a chance to win a Fossil Kit donated by The Fossil Guy. One lucky winner will be selected by random draw later this summer.
For program dates and times please contact your local branch or visit our online calendar.
Take on the Challenge
Summer Reading Club is designed to be flexible and fun. Children can use the official BC Summer Reading Club Reading Record, while families looking for extra adventure can explore the ORL’s Challenge Trackers. This year’s Challenge Trackers feature activities inspired by different ocean zones, encouraging readers to try new books, explore creative activities, and discover new interests along the way. There are no required reading lists and no assigned books. Read what interests you, in whatever format works best for you.
Reading Comes With Rewards
Of course, summer reading has its own rewards, but prizes don’t hurt. Summer Reading Club participants can earn entries for prize draws throughout the season. Many branches will also offer additional local prizes and activities. Children can also work toward earning their Summer Reading Club medal.
