From Gallery Walls to Library Shelves: New VPAG Exhibitions, New Reading List

The Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) and the Vernon Public Art Gallery (VPAG) are once again connecting gallery walls with library shelves through a newly curated reading list inspired by VPAG’s upcoming exhibitions. Whether you’re drawn to contemporary art, storytelling through image and texture, Indigenous perspectives, or the creativity of emerging young artists, this collection invites you to continue the experience beyond the gallery space.

The reading list accompanies four upcoming exhibitions at VPAG:

  • Emergence, featuring University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO) Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) graduates Averi Boerboom, Trinity Davis, Rain Doody, Carly Johnson, Clifford Jasper Ozee, Stevie Poling, and Maya Taki
  • Fireline Kinship by Taylor Baptiste
  • Through Our Eyes by Teen Junction
  • Gathered by School District No. 22 Indigenous students

Emergence, Fireline Kinship, and Through Our Eyes will be on view from 29 May to 25 July 2026. Gathered runs from 21 May to 20 June 2026.

Together, these exhibitions explore identity, connection, community, creativity, memory, and lived experience through a wide range of artistic voices and perspectives. The accompanying ORL reading list expands on those themes with books that inspire reflection, curiosity, and conversation.

From contemporary Indigenous writing and visual culture to books about artistic process, youth expression, and creative exploration, the collection was designed to complement the exhibitions while offering readers new pathways into the ideas behind the artwork.

Planning a visit? VPAG’s Opening Reception for all four exhibitions takes place on Thursday, 28 May from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Vernon Public Art Gallery.
