There’s something special about seeing how a story comes to life through lines, colour, and imagination. This spring, the ORL invites young readers and curious creators to step inside the illustration process with a live, online visit from illustrator and graphic novelist Jana Curll.
With nearly 20 years of creative work experience, Jana Curll brings a thoughtful, nature-inspired approach to storytelling. Her graphic novel series Little Habitats introduces readers to richly illustrated environments shaped by the landscapes and wildlife of Western Canada. From coastal tide pools to forest floors, her work captures the small, vibrant worlds that often go unnoticed, and turns them into stories worth exploring.
During this interactive online session, participants will hear directly from Jana about her creative journey, her inspiration, and the process behind her books, including Barnacle Bay and her upcoming release Fiddlehead Forest. It’s a chance to connect with an artist, ask questions, and see how ideas evolve from sketch to finished page.
Designed for school-aged children, this visit is open to school classes, homeschoolers, and individual participants. Whether you have a budding illustrator at home or a reader who loves stories about animals and nature, this session offers a welcoming entry point into both art and storytelling. As a bonus, registered participants will be entered into a draw to win a book bundle!
Register today and join us online for a creative conversation with Jana Curll.
