Do you have a little book monster at home? Someone who loves to sink their teeth into a good story? This November, visit your local ORL branch to pick up a limited-edition Monster Reader Membership Card for your young reader. It’s a monstrously fun way to celebrate reading together!
Each branch is also hosting a Monster Reader Scavenger Hunt where kids can explore the library, uncover clues, and earn a small prize when they complete their hunt. The activity helps them get to know their library and discover new books and fun activities along the way.
Once your child has their new card, discover all the amazing things waiting for kids at the ORL:
- Story Time Adventures
From Baby Time to Family Story Time, little ones can explore songs, rhymes, and stories that spark imagination and build early literacy skills. - Library of Things for Kids
The Library of Things isn’t just for grown-ups! Families can borrow hands-on learning kits like microscopes, Ozobots, and Snap Circuits Junior to explore awesome STEAM activities together at home. - ORL Makerspaces
Makers gonna make. ORL Makerspaces provide tools and support for hands-on projects, digital media creation, and exploring new technologies such as 3D printers, Cricuts, recording studios, and laser cutters. Kids can create, invent, and learn alongside their families. Please note that children under 14 must be accompanied by a guardian when visiting our Makerspaces. - STEAM and LEGO Programs
Science, technology, engineering, art, and math meet imagination in interactive library programs where kids design, build, and experiment. - 100 Books to Read Together Before Kindergarten (and other great Reading Lists)
Created by ORL Youth Services staff, this popular reading list features a hundred picture books that families can share before children start school. Reading together helps build language skills, strengthen family bonds, and spark a lifelong love of stories. Pick up a copy of the list at your local branch or explore it online for your next great read. - The ORL’s Digital Collection for Kids
Borrow ebooks, e-audiobooks, and e-magazines just for children through the ORL’s Digital Collection. Explore even more online with Libby, TumbleBook Library for Kids, Britannica Library – Children, and CodeCombat. From animated stories and read-alongs to games, quizzes, and coding adventures, there’s something for every curious mind.
So pick up your family’s Monster Reader Card, take part in the scavenger hunt, and make your next family adventure a visit to the ORL!
