Kelowna, BC – September 17, 2025 – The Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) Board of Trustees convened for its third regular meeting of the year. At the meeting, members approved the 2026 budget, confirmed modest additional staffing resources, and received updates on collections and facilities improvements.
The Board’s early approval of the 2026 budget reflects strong confidence in the ORL’s fiscal planning and stewardship. “It’s unusual for our budget to be finalized in September,” said CEO Danielle Hubbard. “Early approval signals the Board’s trust in our financial direction and their commitment to meeting community needs.”
To expand service capacity and enhance support for patrons, the approved budget includes funding for additional Assistant Community Librarian hours in thirty branches.
From books to multimedia to online resources, the ORL’s collection continues to expand. To date, 54,123 items have been added—an average of 1,546 every week—broadening access for readers and learners across the region.
The Board also received a facilities update. Construction has begun on the new North Shuswap (Scotch Creek) Branch and the new Parkinson Recreation Centre Branch in Kelowna. Enhancement Grant projects are progressing, with fresh paint and flooring upgrades in Okanagan Falls, Osoyoos, and Naramata, and new paint for the Lake Country Branch.
