South Shuswap Friends of the Library group was formed in 2002 under the umbrella of the Salmon Arm Friends of the Library group. There are many volunteers that help out with the book sales in Salmon Arm. The South Shuswap Friends of the Library was originally called the Sorrento Friends of the Library.
The book sales are fundraisers for future purchases that help with extra items within the branch. We have purchased chairs from the "Friends of the Library" fund which are situated in the magazine area. In our children's area, the Friends have purchased some very unique items such as toadstools to sit on, and a pretend firepit. The group also provides funds for special library programs and is instrumental in funding the "Summer Reading Program" that is held July and August for children. This BC wide program encourages reading and literacy throughout the summer break!
Meetings are held 5 times a year on Monday's in February, April, June, September and November, The meetings alternate between Salmon Arm and South Shuswap Library Branches.
