Working for the ORL

The ORL looks for team members with enthusiasm and dedication - professional librarians and staff who strongly believe in exceptional customer service while balancing individual and group goals.

The ORL hires the best qualified candidates for its positions. Selections for bargaining unit positions are conducted in accordance with the provisions of the appropriate collective agreement.

Depending on the job description and the location of the position, employees will be classified in one of the following groups:

  • Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE)
  • Professional Employees Association (PEA)
  • Exempt
  • Non Union

 

There are various employee classifications within the ORL. The most commonly hired are:

Permanent Full Time Employees (35 hours per week): Employees who have been assigned to a regularly scheduled position and who have completed probation.

Permanent Part Time Employee (less than 35 hours per week): Employees who have been assigned a regularly scheduled position of less than 35 hours per week and who have completed probation.

Auxiliary EmployeesAn employee who has no permanently scheduled hours and is willing to work on call with or without notice.

Pages: Employees who are classified as Pages must be a minimum of 15 years old and be registered and attend school on a full time basis
